New sockITz options, NFC enabled!

Monday, 10 June 2013 9:45:06 AM Australia/Sydney

When purchasing a smart sockITz you now have the option to upgrade to an NFC enabled version. This lets users of NFC compatible phones program their sockITz to activate certain functions and features on their phone with a simple wave over another NFC enabled device. Think Paywave technology with your bank card.

Imagine getting home from work waving your phone over your smart sockITz in the kitchen which automatically sets your phone to silent or diverts all work calls to your message bank, or when you head off to bed, wave your phone over the sockITz next to your bed and your phone automatically adjusts screen brightness to lowest setting, sets your alarm for the morning and switches to silent.

Another very handy way to use your smart sockITz is for giving guests and friends, access to your Wifi network by simply waving their NFC enabled phone over your sockITz. This way you dont have to give them your password. To program your sockITz for this just download the app InstaWifi here

You can control almost any feature or setting on your phone including starting apps, you can even do multiple tasks in a specific order.

The bad news..... not many phones have NFC built-in currently but things are changing fast. Most new android devices like the Samsung Galaxy range include NFC, Apple devices are currently lacking in this department however the rumour mill has the new iPhone 5S that is released around July-august 2013 is slated to include NFC.

Doing the above is all very simple and there is a multitude of Apps allready available on the Google Play store. Click here to download one now. We recommend the NFC Task Launcher for android devices as its easy to use and program.

Google Nexus devices

Wednesday, 27 March 2013 11:02:47 AM Australia/Sydney

Google recently updated the software on their Nexus devices and as a result our classic sockITz range of GPOs now can charge them properly. Previously the devices would charge very slowly but battery charge indicator wouldnt display as charging. Glad it was googles issue not ours :)

New updated version.

Sunday, 26 August 2012 10:25:19 AM Australia/Sydney

We now have in stock our new version of classic sockITz that now supports the charging of more tablet devices. Previously we supported the charging of Apple iPads that require higher charge rates ie. 2AMPS but in order to do this we had to wire it "Apples" method, which of course is different to all other tablet manaufacturers way of handling power hungry devices. We have been working hard to solve this issue and we are excited to say we can now charge other Andriod based tablets and phones that require more power like Samsung Galaxy Tabs.

So clean that clutter today and install a sockITz

We are currently all sold out of all of our classic sockITz with a few slight mould revisions being done as I type. The version 1.2 classic sockITz batch is due to leave the factory this Sunday 27th (so we should have all our backorders out before the end of May.

On another note we have added some more long cables to our inventory inlcude blue, pink, white and black iPhone and Micro 2 metre usb cables.

We also added this month a black with purple illuminated iPhone cable that are also selling well. check out the video here

Keep and eye out for our new ribbon style iPhone cables that dont tangle as easy and come in our normal large range of colours.

Illuminated cables update

Thursday, 15 March 2012 4:28:51 PM Australia/Sydney

Update on illuminated cable orders.

We got our next shipment of cables and all orders have been sent out. This was a mammoth task as after our video went viral it cleaned us and our factory out of stock and the factory couldnt keep up with orders. Its back to normal now with good stock levels again. Look out for new colours comming soon.

If you registered at the checkout when ordering illuminated cables you can login and check when your order was sent. For all orders outside of Australia allow 10 to 14 days for your order to arrive. We are a long way from most of you so takes a while. Unless you chose express post there is no tracking info for your order.

Sockitz shipping update

Thursday, 15 March 2012 4:20:38 PM Australia/Sydney

Well the inevitable has happened, shipping didn’t happen on the 1st as we expected due to a failure on a packaging machine. I have been told the sockITz are ready and just waiting on packaging. They should ship any day now but we don’t have confirmed date until we see the tracking number.

Hang in there we are getting close.

January Update

Saturday, 21 January 2012 10:37:42 PM Australia/Sydney

Im sad to say we are not going to make a January delivery like our last update indicated. The metal factory that makes the pins for the socket shut down early for their Chinese New Year break a full 2 weeks before the rest of the country. We have tried for a few weeks to find another company to do this first batch but they all didn’t have enough time before the CNY holidays started. Everything else is ready to go once their holidays finish on Feb 6th.

We do have some good news though, we finally got the actual safety certificate copies of which are here 1 and 2

Now those of you with keen eyes will see that the USB ports are rated for 1A and 1A rather than 1A and 2A. The reason for this is the two ports share a 2A supply and the lab decided to test both ports to 1A at the same time equalling a total of 2A. The left port still only provides 1A max and right will supply 2A max. If for example an iPhone is plugged into the left port and an iPad is plugged into the right port, both devices will still charge properly as in reality an iphone only requires about 600mA of constant current and a Ipad uses about 1.5A

December Update

Monday, 12 December 2011 1:00:58 PM Australia/Sydney

We got the final pre-production sample late last week but unfortunately there was as error in the data engraved on the rear of the sockITz so we had to send it back to be revised. Other than the small error in text the classic sockITz worked great and looks good. We are very happy with the final result. However I’m sorry to say it won’t be ready by Christmas as we had hoped.

Our current ETA for shipping out to you is January with us waiting for the revised pre-production sample with corrected text now which should arrive before Christmas.

November Update

Sunday, 6 November 2011 4:28:02 PM Australia/Sydney

We are long overdue for an update and i would firstly like to extend my thanks to our pre-order customers. You patience has been exceptional.

Now for some good news! Our classic sockITz has passed it's final safety test which means we are not far away from final production. The factory is reporting their ETA on sending the first batch to be mid November. My gut feeling though is closer to end of November beginning of December.

All pre-order sales will be air express delivered from the factory to us at our cost to ensure our pre-order customers have their products ASAP.

Once the final shipping date has been set, the pre-order special discount will be removed. So get in quick to save!

Now some other news.

This week we took stock of some extra long 2 and 3 metre long Apple charge/sync cables, available in white and black. These are a great addition to your bedside sockITz charging point

We also got some exciting news that Remington razors are moving towards a range of men’s and ladies shavers that are recharged via usb in the near future. They have a few trimmer models currently that charge via USB http://www.remingtonproducts.com/SearchResults.aspx?q=usb This opens up a great opportunity to get sockITz into Australian and New Zealand hotel room bathrooms to get rid of those terrible looking universal shaver outlets, Oh and of course in your bathroom at home. If you know anyone in the hotel industry we are keen to talk and share profits on a sockITz retro fit.

Know a sparky? We will be looking for qualified sparky’s soon to list on the website so customers can connect with an installer quickly and easily via a simple map search or postcode search. If you are, or know of a licensed electrician, get in contact with us today to have your business listed/advertised on our site along with being able buy products at trade prices directly from us.

July-August Update

Friday, 29 July 2011 4:53:35 PM Australia/Sydney

At long last we just got the final samples, and they are good. They fit perfectly into the standard C-Clip mounting bracket so they are a direct replacement to a standard double or single power point. I signed off on the design today so they have been sent off immediately for safety testing. We expect to pass this with flying colours as they have been designed from scratch around the Australian standards. This process takes about 40 days to complete. So my current estimation on final delivery is about 60 days.

Feb Update

Thursday, 24 February 2011 2:40:40 PM Australia/Sydney

An update on the progress of manufacturing our first batch of sockITz. We had the final design delivered and we sent it off to be safety tested. Which takes just over a month to complete. During this month we handed a few samples around to Electricians to get their feedback and they gave us some valuable feedback to make installing the unit more simple. So we took that advice onboard a decided to make the hard decision to delay the shipment while we modify the rear of the socket. Last thing we want to do is to annoy the electrical contractors.

We don’t have a ETA for the final shipment as yet and every time we put a date in something happens and we miss that date. So when i post the shipping date it will 100% confirmed. Keep an eye on the website or facebook page for updates.

Wednesday, 15 December 2010 11:53:46 AM Australia/Sydney

Just an update of our where we stand mid december. We got the final samples early this month however i was not happy with the quality so it was redesigned to meet our quality control expectations. This has been overcome and we are currently waiting for the the final design to be delivered so we can send them off to be safety tested for Australian/New Zealand. The standards the socket is tested for is, as below

  • AS/NZS3112 testing
  •  AS/NZS CISPR22 (EMC emissions)
  • AS/NZS60950.1:2003 + Amdts testing

This process takes a month to complete so we are expecting final product to begin shipping now late Jan.

We apologise for the delay in getting this exciting new product to you but rest assured we are doing our best to get them to you asap. As always we are offering full refunds for customers that no long wish to wait.
